The Benton Central Lady Bison fell 12-7 on the road Friday evening against North Newton, despite out-hitting the Spartans 9-7. Benton Central found its rhythm early at the plate, with Chloe Linder and Julianna Sibray each collecting two hits to lead the offensive effort. After falling behind in the first inning, the Lady Bison responded in a big way in the second, plating five runs to take a 5-4 lead. Adalynn Keller delivered a key moment in the inning with a groundout that drove in two runs. North Newton answered to tie the game in the third, but Benton Central regained the lead in the fourth. Keller added another RBI, and Sydney Groves came through with an RBI double down the left field line to put the Lady Bison back in front, 7-5. The game shifted in the bottom of the fifth inning, as North Newton capitalized on walks and timely hitting to score seven runs and take control at 12-7. Groves got the start in the circle for Benton Central, recording nine strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work. Defensively, the Lady Bison also turned a double play. Keller led the team with two RBIs, while Benton Central’s nine hits showcased a balanced offensive attack throughout the lineup. The Lady Bison will look to bounce back on Monday as they host South Newton at 5 PM at Kenny Greenberg Field.
